Final Fantasy XIV Marauder

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Throughout history marauder has been a rover, a raider, a pillager and a fiend. The marauder is a vulture, a plunderer and a hellion, roaming the land in search of ample booty. He is like the autumn wind, blustering through villages, crumpling and flattening the dead in its wake like a pile of dead leaves.

As described in Final Fantasy XIV guide, the Marauder is a similar instrument of war. It is one of the five disciplines of melee combat, including FFXIV Archers(bows), FFXIV Lancers(spears and lances), FFXIV Pugilists(claws and metal knuckles, and FFXIV Gladiators(swords and shields). The Final Fantasy XIV Marauder employs use of the Great Axe, which historically has been associated with berserkers, but seldom used by Final Fantasy heroes, outside of the notable Rune Axe and Ogrekiller. In Final Fantasy XI, the Great Axe was used primarily by warriors and beastmasters. In the world of Hydaelyn, however, the Great Axe is synonymous with Eorzean pirates, bandits who roam the Aldenard continent in search of treasure. Whether using the single bladed War Axe or the double bladed Labrys, the Marauder can create maximum mayhem with every swivel.

A Marauder is known for their ferocity, which makes them often recruited for hunts, helping to rid the land of monsters and dangerous beasts. They have been employed as mercenaries, credited with turning the tide in feudal wars with nothing more than single, fearsome swing. Yet the Final Fantasy XIV Marauder is not limited to traditional melee and close range combat, with throwing axes like the Iron, Brass, Bronze and Silver Francisca in their ancillary arsenal; nor are they limited to a specific race, from towering Roegadyn warriors to the menacing munchkin Lafalell, because the marauder does not swing a blunt instrument like a dumb, jabbering beast. He uses the axe with control and precision, maximizing the effect of every blow.
